SSRS: Report Deployment

Part of Microsoft Reporting Services Basics

sql SSRS: Report DeploymentSSRS: Deploying A Report To A Server

As we now have a report created in BIDS (Business Intellegence Development Studio) , it will probably be a good idea to get it onto the Report Server which we configured a few videos back (see “Reporting Services – Configuration“).

So how do we deploy a report in SSRS?

This is where when I was learning I found this odd, there was no button to click onto. I was so used to an Microsoft application that the thought of the report designer being in Visual Studio never crossed my mind. Well that was my mistake, you see, in Visual Studio you have to configure each project you create. So I rather disappointingly, I discovered that we have to do a well place right click in SSRS as opposed to clicking on a fancy button to deploy. Where?…well watch the video to find out!

This video is one of many SSRS video tutorials on this site click here for more

Example SSRS File

To speed up your practice you may want to download this example SSRS project.  This is not the report I show in the video, however, this will speed up your SSRS deployment time:

nevermind I solved it. The target Server URL was pointing to the virtual directory not the true one. Also had a problem with permission for my user account but finally realized that you have to go to home/folder settings/new user assignment and set myself up with permissions.

But thank you for these videos they are great!

I’m getting an error when trying to deploy. ‘The specified Report Server URL {address} could not be found. Verify the syntax of the URL and that the report server exists’.
What is strange is that I have verified the specific URL which is what I specified in the configuration manager and I can even bring up the SSRS Home page (Home – Report Manager) when I type it into a browser. Anyone have any ideas?
